Prepare Your Home for Winter: Avoid Long-Term Problems

It is well known that Thailand has three seasons: summer, rainy season, and winter. Although the winter season may not be very cold, it is still important to be prepared for it. This is no different from preparing for the summer or rainy season. We cannot know when unexpected events will happen.
In this article, we will invite everyone to prepare their homes in advance. This will help to reduce some of your worries when winter arrives. Most of the problems in winter are caused by the cold wind that blows into the house. So, what are the problems and how to prepare for them?

1. Problems from trees around the house

If you have large trees around your house, be careful. When the cold wind blows, the wind may cause the branches to break and fly into your house, causing damage. Therefore, before winter, be prepared to cut branches. Any branches that look risky or fragile should be trimmed. Especially branches that are starting to grow into the house, it is best to cut them away from the house.

2. Problems with cracks in the walls

When the cold wind blows against the house, the cold will slowly seep into the house through cracks in the walls. In addition, the changing weather also causes the walls to stretch and contract according to the temperature, resulting in cracks. Therefore, to prevent the problem from spreading in winter, we may have to go out and explore around the house and keep an eye out for cracks. If you find any cracks, use caulk to seal them tightly. Finish the problem before it spreads.

3. Mold problems

Did you know that most molds have an ideal temperature range for growth of 15-30 degrees Celsius? When winter comes, molds are ready to grow because they have been nurtured by the humidity that occurred in the rainy season. Therefore, if you are looking for cracks on the walls of your house, you may also notice mold at the same time. When you find mold, use a brush to scrub off the black mold completely. Then, use a cloth soaked in alcohol to clean the area. Cut off the mold's life cycle to prevent it from spreading.

4. Fire problems

Especially in the winter, when the air is dry, has low humidity, and has strong winds, there is an increased risk of fire. Therefore, check your electrical wires and equipment to make sure they are in good condition. If there is any damage, even minor, please repair it immediately. You can also install a fire protection system, install an automatic circuit breaker, and ground the electrical system.

5. Allergy problems

You may be wondering why allergies are a home problem in the winter. That's because during the changing weather, people with allergies, especially dust mites allergies, are more likely to be exposed to allergens such as dust from mattresses, flower pollen, and animal hair. Therefore, before winter comes, we should clean the mattress, pillows, blankets, and other risk areas in the home, such as air conditioners, sofas, closets, etc., so that allergy symptoms will be relieved in winter.

The home problems caused by winter that we presented in this article are simple steps to prepare your home for the upcoming winter. Everyone can do it immediately, or you can do it with your family to get the job done faster. No matter how cold the weather is this year, please don't neglect to prepare for it early. Damage is damage, no matter how small or large it is. If it affects your living or lifestyle, it may not be too late to fix it later.
