How to Install a Water Heater Safely

How to Install a Water Heater Safely

As the weather starts to get colder, it's time to start thinking about installing a water heater. A water heater is a must-have appliance for any household, especially during the winter months. But if you're not comfortable with electrical work, you may be wondering how to install a water heater safely.
If you buy a water heater without water heater installation service. In this article, we'll walk you through the steps on how to install a water heater yourself. We'll cover everything from choosing the right location to connecting the electrical wiring.

Step 1: Read the Manual

Before you start any electrical work, it's important to read the manual that came with your water heater. This will give you important safety instructions and information on how to install your specific model.

Step 2: Check the Inside of the Water Heater

Once you've read the manual, open the water heater and check the inside for any damage. Make sure that all of the components are in good condition and that there are no loose wires.

Step 3: Choose a Location

The water heater should be installed in a convenient location for connecting to the faucet and running the electrical wiring. It should be near the shower and high enough off the ground, about 150-170 cm, or calculated based on the height of the users in the house. Once you've decided on a location, clean the wall before installing the water heater.

Step 4: Turn off the breaker at the control panel to be safe

Before you start any electrical work, turn off the power to the circuit breaker that controls the water heater. This will prevent electrical shock.

Step 5: Calculate the Wire Size

The wire size you need will depend on the wattage of your water heater. You can use this formula to calculate the wire size:

Wire Size (Sqmm.) = Water Heater Wattage / 220 Volts * 1.25
For example, if your water heater has a wattage of 3,700 watts, you would need a wire size of 21 Sqmm.

Step 6: Run the electrical wiring and ground wire from the main breaker to the installation point

If you have a new house, the ground wire and breaker for the water heater will already be installed. If you have an old house or a house that doesn't have a dedicated breaker for the water heater, you should run the electrical wiring and ground wire from the main breaker to the installation point to prevent electrical short circuits. It's also a good idea to install an additional breaker in front of the bathroom to prevent electrical short circuits. This will add an extra layer of safety.

Step 7: Install the Water Heater

Mark the location where you want to install the water heater. Use a drill to make a hole in the wall. Attach the water heater to the wall with screws.

Step 8: Connect the wires to the water heater

This step is important, so please double-check your work. There are three wires to connect: L to the positive terminal, N to the negative terminal, and G to the ground wire. All three points are listed in the manual. Once you've connected all the wires, please check to make sure they're connected correctly.

Step 9: Connect the water supply line and shower hose to the water heater

Turn off the water valves. Connect the water supply line to the water heater where the water comes in, then connect the shower hose to the water that comes out.

Step 10: Test the water system

Turn on the water valves and let the water run to test the flow. Check for any leaks.

Step 11: Turn on the breaker and test the water heater

In the final step, check that the water heater is working properly. Make sure that the operating status indicator light turns on normally when you turn it on. Then, press the ELCB TEST button on the unit. The unit should turn off and the indicator light should go out. If it doesn't go out, it means that the safety system is not working properly or the wires are connected incorrectly. You need to check again to see if there are any errors during the installation. And you should do this regularly at least once a month for safety.

These are the steps to install a water heater yourself, which can be done with the tools you already have at home. Installing a water heater is not difficult, but it is not easy either.
